Each Google search will throw at you all the pages relevant to the topic or keyword. If a term brings up some of the giants in the industry you need to realize that you are using the wrong search terms. Optimize your keywords and ensure that they are service related in order to have any hope of becoming an option on Google. Going after the largest population may bring the most opportunity, but it also brings with it the most competition on Google.
